Gotta lock it down

I've got to secure a Fotsy(Arca Swiss type) quick release clamp to the top of my tripod. At one point, a long time ago, the tripod had some kind of non-slip material on top. With that gone I'm left with a clean polished aluminum surface. The end result is that no matter how I tighten the mounting screw, the weight of a camera is enough to cause the QR clamp to move. As I don't think I'll want to remove or move the clamp anytime in the foreseeable future I'm thinking about epoxy or maybe a loctite type product. Any/all suggestions are as always very greatly appreciated.

How about visiting a store that has hobby supplies and finding some thin foam to replace it with. A little spray adhesive on one side and you're good to go. Sometimes you can even get foam that already has a peel and stick back but that won't last as long.

Your proposal sounds sort of permanent and hard to undo should you choose to do so. With some luck, a better solution will be along shortly.

1/16" sheet cork glued with rubber cement will do as well as anything I can think of.

3M makes thin non-skid step pads that have very sticky adhesive on one side. Simply cut to fit. Home Depot, Lowe's, ACE

A large thin rubber gasket, available at most hardware stores, will solve your problem.

There's lots of non-slip material you can buy, and there are even sprays.

Get a sheet of felt, cut to shape with an X-acto knife and apply with double sided sticky tape. Cheap, easy to remove.

So, for the time being, here's the fix. I started with a single layer of black gorilla tape to cover the polished aluminum plate/top of the tripod, opening a whole for the screw. I next applied a piece of "Scotch Extremely Strong (double-sided) Mounting Tape" to the base of the QR clamp. So far so good. For the last two hours I've had a camera with a fairly long/heavy lens hanging from the vertical plate w/o movement... and the good news is it'll all clean up with nail polish remover if I change my mind.

Thanks again

Look for thin cork, say 1/16. Cut it too fit with a really sharp razor, cutting cork can be tedious. Then using some some spray glue attach the cork to to the tripod. I've done this twice and it works really well.

I have had good luck with a piece of Automobile inner tube. Don't use two layers; they will slip on each other.

If I had that problem with a camera mount, I would quickly get rid of it and find a reliable mount. It is not worth loosing a camera by trying to save poorly functioning mount. There are many good reliable mounts available for most all tripods. My quick release happens to be made by Arca Swiss. I have never had a problem with it. I have been using it for over two years, almost daily, under many extreme conditions. It has never come close to failure.
