Has any one purchased the international version (I mean the one purchased outside USA). I believe we can buy one at the duty free shop for a good discount. I was concerned about the warranty too. I would appreciate your input. Thank you.

Best advise I could give you, buy genuine imported Canon products or refurbs from reputable dealers in this country. Make sure when you buy used gear that what you buy was a genuine import.
I do not know about Canon but Nikon will not honor or repair under warranty any gray market product.

Do a google search for Canon support. When you call the number, sales is also a menu choice, select it, and ask the rep your question. Then, you'll have a answer you can believe. If you're still concerned and believe in the old Reagon "trust but verify," ask if the policy is written any where. Remember to be specific about where you are interested in buying, exam. international duty free store or Joe's Camera in Bangkok, etc.

Canon USA will repair a Canon camera no matter where it was purchased. If it is NOT a USA model(grey market) Canon will charge you for a repair.
But ANY Canon camera that is more than a year old, you will be paying for the repair regardless of where the camera was purchased.
To take full advantage of Canon services you really should have both a Canon camera and Canon lenses as well. That way if repairs or calibrations are needed with the lens attached Canon can work on both of them.
Oftentimes a grey market products may come with a 3rd party warranty.
If a grey market comes with a decent warranty and you can save a considerable amount on cost, it may be a worthwhile purchase. Good luck

I bought an 18-135 lens for the wife's T5i about two years ago from a grey market dealer in the US. I called Canon and they told me that as long as I had a receipt for it the warranty would be honored even though I did not have a warranty card. Don't know how that applies to purchases out side the US, but Canon seems to be more understanding with their warranty repairs than Nikon.
