Can anyone persuade me not to purchase this camera? I intend to purchase a new camera, but the weight of DSLR's as well has the expense have driven me away from the market.

Also, Happy Memotial Day!

There seems to be some discussion by reviewers on Amazon about availability of this unit.
It seems there may be some available for $499 through Panasonic.
Other than that, seems like it might be a decent choice.
Good luck!

Yes, I knew this. I was told by BH there was a 6 week backup. I will look, but I think Panasonic may have a backup also. Thanks for replying.

I am not in a hurry for I live in Phoenix area and the summers are so hot I don't get out as much. It is the direct sunlight that wears one down. Especially as one gets older.

I've had a Lumix in the past and loved it, but recently the Samsung WB700 has me looking twice. http://www.samsung.com/us/photography/digital-cameras/EC-WB700ZBPBUS? I have not compared the specs though.

The question we should be asking is - what are you looking for in a camera? Is it simply weight? A Canon T3i weighs just over 18 ounces. Is it expense? The Lumix isn't cheap. So what are you looking for in a camera and or what do you like to shoot?

I enjoy shorting landscape, birds, and macro. I just purchased 3 52 mm Hoya close up lenses. I have a. Canon S3 IS but technology has made it close to obsolete. I also want to make sure the camera has a hot shoe for an added fash when needed. I would like a fast lense, burst shots, and a telephoto lense.

With the Canon 3T isn't the 18oz the weight without a lens?

You can shoot everything you want with any camera so it comes down to features like interchangeable lenses, flashes, etc. or convenience. I love my DSLR, but the Samsung I was looking at would be an easy second choice especially for the price. It shoots A, Av, Tv, M and RAW and is pretty small. Its a hard call, but my suggestion would be to go to a large retailer and spend some time with a few cameras then decide.

Would you believe in the Phoenix area I can't find a large retail camera shop that is not for the professional or advanced photographer. MIn fact I can't find one that carries several brands.

In Phoenix you can go to
Fry's Electronics.
3035 W. Thunderbird Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85053
Phone (602) 445-8800
M-F 8a-9p, S 9a-9p Su 9a-7p

When you walk in, cameras are in the back left corner. They are not a place to ask for help, but have a large selection.
Hold them, shoot a few, etc. Think about weight, cost and accessories. Its a place to start at least.

Here are there ads for the week http://www.frys.com/ads/view-all-store-ads?source=view-all-nav

I have been using a Panasonic Lumix FZ18 for the past few years. A terrific bridge camera. All the things you mentioned that you want from a camera the FZ150 has them. The Macro Zoom is very good.
The 150 now has the hot shoe which the older FZ's did not. But I still never lost a shot because of the lack of external flash. If John & Randy Fry don't help you tell them you will call their dad -Chuck- he may still be at his winter house there in Phoenix. LOL -Long story how I know them. PM me f you want to see some of my shots.

Harvey,
Are you speaking of Fry's Electronics? If so, I was over there last week.
At the time they didn't have the ZF150. They have to be billionarires. That place is always packed.

Just google'd the Lumix ZF150 and saw a review that indicated the Canon SX40hs gave better results. Have not done extensive research on the Lumix, but the SX40 is AWESOME. Many of the members on UHH have one of them. Check out some of the Daily Challenge contributors also. Selling most places between $350 on sales to $399 reg price @ Walmart, BestBuy, Staples, etc, might be just a bit higher at "real" camera stores. Check out Porters Camera Store, a mail-order store out of Iowa.

I bought this exact model for my wife and it is awesome. The lens is a Leica and the images it produces are incredible. One thing I was looking for was the ability to shoot RAW format and this camera will. For a lightweight very versatile camera I would highly recommend it.

My advice is always the same: read reviews.
