The pictures from my new smartphone go to Google Photo. My phone shoots 13 meg pixels. I notice when I bring a photo in from Google Photo to my computer, they are reduced in size and I believe they have lost some of the color compared to those I download from the camera directly to my computer.
What can you tell us about this?

Verizon does the same thing. I believe they do it to save bandwidth... I really do not like it. I take the chip out of my smart phone and load it directly. Of course many of the new smartphones will not allow that.

This post reminds me of a question I have been unable to resolve. When I transfer a picture from my Sony a6300 to the iPad by means of putting the SD card into the Apple Camera Connection Kit, does the image get altered in size or in any other way?

Interesting use of terms: "High Quality" and "Original." The real indicator is in the amount you can store - unlimited for High Quality and limited for Original.

Most photo sites that I'm aware of always compress these files to save their hard drive space.
