I'm sure this has been asked before. I also understand that your answer may change with the "camera de jour.”
If someone asked me this question, I’d be hard pressed to answer. A few years ago we took a trip to Ireland and Scotland. We only took one camera, the RX100M2. We got a lot of very good photos and I was happy with my choice. We are planning a plane trip to Texas at the end of this month and I plan to stay there for a week. I’m going to take my A99ii and four different lenses, (Covering 17~300mm) simply because I can and want to.
If I wanted to lower my load for a weekend trip, I currently would just take my A99ii and my tiny Minolta 35~70mm f/4 with the manual macro, because the A99ii is not going to leave my hands for a long time.
What would you take?

I use a Nikon, so am not familiar with A99ii, but for my general lens, I use a 28/120 lens and it has served me well.
Dave,
Much of the decision will be driven by just where in Texas you will be. The landscape can vary from desert to forrest, from seashore to mountain, from city to rural. I think the range that you have will be fine.
Welcome to TX. Enjoy your trip.

That sounds like a single lens designed to cover a large range. Is it f/2.8 over that range? If so it would be rather big and heavy.
How light am I traveling, absolute minimum= G15, lots of versatility= T4i and 17-70 Sigma, in between T4i and 24mm,40mm and 50mm. Bob.
i would take two lenses with me. My Canon 18-135 and my Canon 70-200mm with a 1.4 tele converter. That would do it for me.

I'm going to "Round Rock", near Austin. I have visited Texas several times. The thing I like most about Texas are it's people.

Yep, that range would cover almost every need.
7d mk11 and tamron 16-300 are my go to every where combo
For a weekend trip, I'd be bringing several cameras, each with their lenses. So here's the list of lenses.
Nikkor 20mm
Nikkor 28~300mm
Nikkor 35mm
Nikkor 50mm
Zeiss Elmar 50mm
Jupiter-8 50mm
Zeiss 50mm
Zeiss 80mm
Zeiss 150mm
Zeiss 250mm
Schneider-Krueznach 150mm
Schneider-Krueznach 210mm
That should do it.

You must travel in a truck! LOL
On typical sight-seeing trips, either a 35mm or 50mm is all I really need.
