Could I have made this picture better?

I kinda like this, but am thinking the same thing. Something is not quite right, but can't put my finger on it. Did you shoot any more and change the setting at all?

I think it's the clouds. Somehow they deserve to be in their own picture. They seem to detract from the rest.

Foreground is too dark. Otherwise great shot.

The clouds just before sun up were the reason for the picture.
Thanks

I can see that. In fact, looking at it again, I think that it might have been a little better if the clouds were completely reflected in the water.
I like the darkness because it represents a sunrise.
A silhouette might have been another variation.

Understand, I think it's a really good capture. The exposure is perfect. The boats are beautiful. The color is great. I was just trying to figure out how you could have made the picture better.

My PP skills are good & getting better, but I'd love to see someone mirror the boats & cloud formation.

I really like what you've done here. Would it be too much to ask you what steps you took to produce the differences? I'd love to be able to do that.

That's what we're here for. Personally, I like the second, of the 4 best because it has a little more reflection, but the 3rd & 4th have a nice treatment of the clouds. HDR?

Wow! I love both but your first is great.
What software is needed to be able to do that?

I agree, good shot but the foregroud was too dark.

Photoshop Elements 10 will blend images for improving exposure among others.

Another way to tackle this situation (light sky dark forground) is with a graduated Neutral Density filter; like sunglasses for the top half of your image.

With the 1st one, I opened in PSE 8, made a duplicate, opened Viveza 2 (a plug in) under Filter, clicked on the dark areas and raised the shadows, brightness & contrast adjustments.

For the 2nd one, I opened up your photo in camera raw in PSE 8, raised the exposure to +2 & saved a copy. Then I reopened your photo in camera raw and reduced the exposure to -2 & saved a copy. Then I loaded your photo, the +2 and -2 photos into Photomatix to produce an HDR photo at about 70% strength + sharpening a bit..

I prefer the 2nd one. I think the first one has too much noise.
