Both great examples of what this consumer lens is capable of.

Great shots from an inexpensive aftermarket lens. Vivitar lenses were popular at one time. I bought a cheap Phoenix mirror 500mm f8 T-mount lens 7 years ago. I haven't used it in 5 years. Now, you're wanting me to dust off the carton. And assemble my tripod.

Yes, it is often quite amazing what a "simple" optical design can do, if optics are well executed. Especially when owned by someone who spends time improving his/her technique more than harping on the flaws of their equipment.

Great Capture. As you know Vivitar never made anything. They were a marketing company. Their Vivitar 283 Flash became a standard in it's time with pros. Your lens was made by a reliable lens manufacturer for Vivitar..possibly Tokina or Tamron.

Yes, could be Samyang/Rokinon as well, less likely to be Tamron, unless it's the mirror lens.
Only flaw I can see is that micro-contrast is missing in the birds' feathers, but unless we are talking about images for publication, not an issue.

Hee hee, still own one. Nearly useless today though since it pushes too much voltage through it's trigger system for most digital cameras. You can fry your camera easily that way, just by taking a picture.

the first lens i got was a bower 500mm long lens , did ok with this , then on ebay this used 600/1200 was for $ 67 , i could not resist .it is sold with various names on it . lately i ended up with a nikon nikkor 800mm f8 first generation in like new condition [ film era ] 7 pounds , very sharp . the only draw back to cheap lenses is the chromatic aberration problem , dont shot a white bird in bright sunlight , you end up with a purple fringe around the bird . the best pictures with that vivitar , is at around 20 ft or so , with flash is needed .will post some .

You can get a voltage reducing cord if you are so inclined from Paramount Cords.
