Its one of the first horseless carages made in Pa. Did you see the pivot pin in the center? It must have took a strong guy to turn that thing. It steered like a wagon. The front axle springs and every thing else had to move at the same time. On those old unpaved roads. I bet you didn't get to far without needing a break to recoop.

I'd still like to have gone with Bertha Benz on her history
making trip!

Indeed, there are lighting conditions were HDR is of no use what-so-ever.

When my picture shows up on line it is not the same
as on my monitor.... the HDR above is quite different
than what I sent. Perhaps it's time for a monitor calibration
on my end.

Rip Tragle, I think your monitor is probably just fine. The photo of the steamer does look a bit dark, but if you click the "download" under the photo you will see a larger version with a much better exposure. ........ Coot

Yes, you are right, the download version is much closer to the original.

Rip, earlier in this thread you mentioned setting up a Vincent engine for installation in a Morgan three wheeler. Last March I went to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. They had a DOZEN Vincents there. I've never seen more than three in one place before. There were two I had never seen, a 500cc single and the last, fully enclosed, model they made just before they closed their doors. Go to my thread at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-30479-1.html for some of the pics I took there.

I was in the Navy in the early 1950s in California and had an AJS 500cc single. One of the officers on my ship had a Black Shadow. We used to ride together and occasionally swap bikes. The shadow was quite a ride, gobs of torque, but I didn't like the rear suspension at all. It seemed really wishy washy in the corners.

If the machine was "wishy washy" in corners something
was decidedly wrong. Yes, Vincent produced plenty of
500cc singles. The Comet was most common. The ''Grey Flash''
was the racing version.
The enclosed D series was the worst mistake Phil Vincent ever made.... the weirdness of the machine spelled: THE-END.
However, it was one of the first uses of fiberglass cowling.

A masterpiece of engineering.
Each section is indexed with super precision... the twin roller
bearing rods and mains run to the outside of the joining
serrations.... the crank is bolted together when the rods are in place.

Guys,

Should we be asking Admin to move this thread to the Non-Photography section of the forum?

I keep getting e-mails that there's a new post on Natural -looking HDR & more often than not, it's classic car stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of classic cars, but I'm also a big fan of photo techniques.

Just a thought...

PD
