Here are additional pictures from the collection.
1. I am not sure of the identity, but this may be a male long-horned bee (Svastra obliqua).
2. I picked up a Chinese preying mantis nymph (Tenodera sinensis), and two days later it molted to a lovely adult. Here she is, posed on a cherry tree in the back yard. This is one of my favorite pictures in my entire collection. The bit of sky behind the head was a total accident, but it was an important lesson to me because it taught me to seek to use the background to enhance the subject.
I later released her, but I wish I kept her longer to get pix of her being a predator.
Do other people here have regrets over not getting pictures? I have a LOT of those. Anyway...
3. I think this mayfly is one of the flat-headed mayflies, maybe Maccaffertium sp. or Leucrocuta sp. This group of mayflies are noted to have weird eyes of some arrangement or other.
4. Lets have some monarch (Danaus plexippus) appreciation. This of course is a larva...
5. ... And here are some adults, feeding in the late summer on joe-pye weed which is a common native plant around here that is very attractive to butterflies.
Impressive shots! Your narrative adds a lot to the experience too.
An outstanding set Mark. Great lighting and detail! Fine work.
