Do any of the Nikons have a way of blocking light through the viewfinder when in live view?
Very interested in knowing how to prevent affecting exposure in that mode. I'm currently using a D5300.

I thought in live view the mirror is up and therefore the viewfinder has absolutely no effect upon the exposure. So it does not need to be covered.

Take your camera to a dark room, turn on live view, shine a penlight into the viewfinder.
If you see anything on your view screen then you need to block the viewfinder, especially under bright conditions.

Your D5300 came with a plug for the viewfinder. Look again in the box.

The D8xx has a shutter.

On reflection I believe that is correct. The shutter and cover are for when you have your eye away from the viewfinder and are not using live view; e.g. on a tripod.

It can't be too important as having your eye to the viewfinder does not seal against all light.

if you don't have a viewfinder cover, keep a piece of black material with you to cover it up.

You can get a DK-5 from eBay for $0.99, no shipping. From China, but then everything comes from China.
