Why we move to Florida.... this weekend at the wetlands.

After enduring a miserably hot and humid summer, the gorgeous weather has returned. Maybe someday I will become a "snowbird" and spend the summer in Maine. But this weekend finds the weather here to be in the 60's and 70's, sunny, and with a breeze. Could not be better!
I love to take a walk in the wetlands any day that I can (the nearby Viera Wetlands). Almost always something different. But here are the "usual suspects" from this weekend. I almost want to apologize for some of my photos - because no where that I have ever been does the wildlife let you walk by so close - it makes it almost TOO easy! A head shot of a great blue heron from six feet away - routine every day photo... It is one of THE best spots for photographing birds in the country.
See-through anhinga!
Sandhill crane from five feet!
Lunch, anyone?
Pretty in pink!
Surveying the wetlands!
Your pictures are beautiful. Why I moved to Arizona its a dry heat little humidity and we also have lots of birding and few bugs. LOL

Great shooting Steve!!! I will send you a few snow balls as the winter starts here!:):) For some reason, I still love the winter time. That might change some day.:):)
Haha. I spent 27 years in Central Florida, got tired of sweating 10 months out of the year.
Good et Steve, just for the record, its about 5 below here but beautiful clear sky,
Geoff

Thanks - I also love Arizona (well - Phoenix not so much...) - but don't get out there often enough. The mountains south of Tucson are great, the "red rocks" of Sedona are awesome, and I was fortunate to spend a summer many decades ago working in Whiteriver and explored Mt Baldy and that area and visited the Navajo reservation - and Canyon de Chelley - very mystical!

Well - it's only four or five, and as Floridians say: at least during OUR miserable months we don't have to shovel anything". The snowbirds have the best of both worlds...

Thanks, Geoff - but come on - that's probably Celsius, right? When WE say "five below" we are freezing our butts off! Minus five Celsius - in Maine we would have considered that to be springtime!
But a cold sunny day is a thousand times better than a cold overcast day wherever you are! (I am glad to be living where it doesn't get five below Celsius OR Fahrenheit!).

Thanks, Erv. All things in moderation. I did not mind the winters in Maine as much as did my wife ("I am NOT going to spend another winter here" I recall her saying!). And you know what they say - "Happy wife, happy life"! Of course, we were an hour from the nearest traffic light - no shopping, no decent restaurants (great seafood in the summer, though!), a grocery store with no interesting and/or ethnic food options.... at least we had satellite TV and high-speed internet!
Oh - I just realized I had forgotten to add a photo of today's basking little friend....

Excellent shots Steve..I wish I was there now!!
Steve, very nice series and a great reminder about Viera! I must have a thing for cranes because I love your Sandhill close up and the Great Blue doing his thing in the treetops.
Beautiful set, Steve, and for about the next three months, my mind if not my body will be there. By about mid-February, I've seen more than enough of brown, grey, and white, and just looking for an excuse to bolt! Just maybe I'll see you in the wetlands about then!
