My daughter just picked up a new computer to help for work. On it was the newer USB3 conections and it also had USB-C.
Q1 What is USB-C?
She told me it was the newest (?) connector that has all the connections at one point. I looked around for an adapter I could use in my desktop and found a couple but not many.
Q2 Will I have to get that before long or is it not really needed for now?

USB-c has been around for some time -- think cell phones and similar devices. Cables are readily available, but I haven't run into anything that I needed a usb-c to usb-c cable for yet. Most of these cables are usb to usb-c for things like charging your cell phone. Best of luck.

Most cell phones are USB-b (micro). USB-c is newer, and mostly found on the newest and thinnest laptops.
Just the newest version of USB which accomodates both data and power.
It's a shame that there are so many kinds of USB connectors. Of course, it's good for the cable makers. Do we really need mini and micro and USB-C?

Of course we do. It's called progress! Would you prefer that Canon or Nikon stopped trying to improve and release new cameras?
