Open Court

In order to convey the geometry and open space of this scene, I used the court net as the primary subject to tie these two ideas together. As I generally prefer uncluttered compositions with relatively few elements, I chose a perspective specifically with this in mind.

We all know I'm a bit off 2c4 so I would like to see just the opposite with depth of field presented here. As presented my eye is blocked from seeing the open space because of the oof background. The perspective you chose seems about right to me though.

Here's the version specifically for you, Frank:

Would love you to talk further about what you saw here that you wanted to convey? Im sure their must be something but unlike many of your posts this has the same impact as freshly emulsioned ceiling so I'm lost.

The second version does what you're after due, I think, to the ground now being a continuous in focus surface. If it's an exercise, that's the way to go. Otherwise, tends to lack real interest.

I definitely prefer the one you did for Frank, with the clearer focus throughout the scene, it lets the eye travel better down the line of the net, which is the main element in the composition. Your shot is sharp, your conversion is fine, but I'm not seeing a lot to look at. It is what you find interesting that is most important though. As a minimalist shot of lines, I'd probably shoot from a crazier angle and process it crazier, to boost the interest, but as with the issue of interest, it is your intent that matters!

I might have gotten a bit lower and I would definitely have chosen to have all of the photo in focus. It distracts me to follow that wonderful line of the net only to end up in the background with the details obscured. Just my take, of course.
