Truly amazing photograph dsturr. Technically magnificent as far as my knowledge goes. Great use of light for wonderful tones.

There are many photos within this one photo. Such a metallic feel to it; portions of these dry mushrooms could season other photos serving as a background. Kudos

The image reminds me of a Greek or Roman statue where the beasts are tangled upon one another fighting for dominance. Thank you for sharing! S-

Thanks Frank. Basically done the same way as my last photo with a bit more use of a couple of Nik filters.

Thanks. Plus I have a few more that I didn't include in this shot.

Thanks Steve. I guess I'm too busy looking for trees (noise, halos, blurry areas, burned highlights etc) to notice that much about the actual forest. Looking up at clouds I tend to think about what they'd look like in a long exposure shot rather than see things like animals etc.

This is a truly stunning piece of work from a technical point of view. Would I hang it on a wall? No chance. It lacks any soul or feel for me. Bear with me if you wish and Ill try and explain.
I sat down with an architect in the UK and we designed the house I had built. He produced rough pencil sketches of my new house filling in details such as trees to be planted a car in the drive etc. From that sketch his team produced the blueprints for the builders and engineers which were perfect in every detail showing the skill of these draftsmen. I had one of the rough sketches framed and hung in the entrance of my house and never looked at the blueprints again. The rough sketch was not perfect in its execution but had interest and that important ingredient soul.
Your are very skilled at what you do and seem to enjoy it but I personally like an image with a little heart in it. Getting a technically perfect image of a subject that does not move seems to lack any real challenge once one has mastered the technique.

If you didn't mention it was a mushroom, that would have been the last thing I would have picked. Great lighting and I like the "textured" feel of the shot. As Steve previously mentioned could be something along the lines of Greek or Roman mythology.

An interesting picture, very nicely processed. At first glance I too thought statue. It reminds me of a sculpted frieze, with serpents, birds, all sorts in there! So, very interesting and a masterful exercise but, as Billy has said, probably not one I'd hang.

"Would I hang it on a wall? No chance. It lacks any soul or feel for me." I don't care. When you used the word fascinating to describe WR's so called "Challenge" you rendered all of your future opinions as essentially worthless. It was obvious to almost all what he was doing but I guess you missed that one. Only one other thought the post was for real and described it as a tutorial. Ridiculous.

You accuse others of posting shots that are essentially the same as thousands if not millions of what has already been done. Your last post of the car is exactly this. And not even well done. The CA was horrible. You should have applied the lens corrections to each of the raw files before merging to HDR. Failing that you should have at least checked the final shot and applied the manual correction. Should be second nature considering the amount of practice you've had with HDR. And why not take advantage of the extra dynamic range and bring out a bit of shadow detail? I've got a whole hard drive full of this kind of stuff (most better, some the same, none worse) but just not connected to my computer.

I notice that your technique is to wait until most of the compliments are done and then come in with your comments. As though some kind of expert pointing out what all those less critical have missed.

"Getting a technically perfect image of a subject that does not move seems to lack any real challenge once one has mastered the technique." You assume too much. I just don't post my failures. I suppose the sin is pride but I consider it better than sloth. It's just the way I was brought up which you apparently were not.

And by the way (assuming that all in here are being truthful) I'm older than you. You like to refer to others in here as young sir or young Tom, Dick or Harry or whatever as if you are the elderly sage dispensing advice. Nothing more than the Appeal to Authority fallacy. Only works on those who aren't familiar with this "technique".

Have a good day Younger_Than_Me_Billy.
Actually why don't you just use your real name? It's already in this forum so you didn't have to say that Billy wasn't your real name as most who'd been here for a while already knew that.

Thanks. It's not on my wall either.

I believe I called your post a stunning piece of work and apologize if you feel its wrong that it has no further appeal to me beyond that. You posted it with For Your Consideration written under it. I considered it and commented. Did not feel it was necessary to like every post that appears and went out of my way to respectfully try and explain why I appreciate the skill that's involved but it would not be something I would buy or hang and it seems I'm not alone in that view.
Forgive me if I ignore most of what you have written I cannot see the relevance of it.
It actually worries me not at all whether my posts are liked or not and what is said about them please believe that. I consider myself a rank amateur snapper have no delusions about my talent or lack of it and have little interest in working to become better. All I seek is fun and happiness and being a star photographer would make no difference to how happy and content I am.
Ya lost me a bit with the name thing? Some here know my real name and use it in private. If you do not know it PM me and Ill inform you if you really wish to know. Billyspad is my net name and my email name a name I have printed on tee shirts I design and has been for many years. It has a deep meaning to me and some are aware of why this is. Its probably unlikely I would share this information with you at this stage of our relationship.
So to conclude Im sorry if I had both positive and negative thoughts about your image but I never comment without due thought and try and give a reason behind the thought process. Net forums are possibly not the place to show work if the author only wants to hear nice things said about their work.

"Forgive me if I ignore most of what you have written I cannot see the relevance of it."

I'm not surprised.

"Some here know my real name and use it in private."
One correction to my post; I should have said website and not forum. It's already been used on this site and I don't have to PM you. This isn't the only forum I read. Nor the only website. And you've already explained why you use the name "Billyspad."

"Its probably unlikely I would share this information with you at this stage of our relationship." But you've already explained that at some length. The cat. Remember now? When I used the expression "the race goes to the swift" I wasn't talking about a 100 meter dash.

If you're going to claim to be a straight shooter try applying the same standards to yourself as you do to others. To the best of my knowledge a parked car isn't moving and "Getting a technically perfect image of a subject that does not move seems to lack any real challenge once one has mastered the technique."

So exactly what did you mean when you used that word "fascinating"? Using that term to describe that thread pretty much renders all of your positive comments about my stuff as absolutely worthless. If you've ever watched Seinfeld you'll recall "The Hamptons" episode. If not, then ignore this comment.

You might also want to check out the word "illeism" and what it's useage might say about the user. Especially when one uses it on an ongoing basis.
