Might as well start in The Attic as it will probably get moved here anyway.

Just for edification and amusement. I really hope most of you can enjoy these just for what they are and not start a political donnybrook.

I am reading Theodore the Great - Conservative Crusader by Daniel Ruddy.

We are thinking that our politics are unique, they aren't, just different.

To paraphrase some of the things from the book:
Theodore Roosevelt was probably the most well read of all our presidents, an historian & author with a huge vocabulary and a ready wit. He used the language and ideas of the Progressives by picking what he thought was good and using it for his own purposes. He carried out those ideas he decided were good ones. But at heart he was a Conservative of the classical sort. He could often be bombastic etc. He could insult people and then charm them out of being mad. In many ways as Woodrow Wilson said "He is a great big boy,..." with a boy's charm and ability to earn forgiveness when offensive. And at the same time one of the most effective presidents we have ever had with a vision that produced results and ideas still with us and admired by many of all political leanings. On one occasion when an anti-Semitic rabble-rouser demanded police protection at one of his events, then Police Commissioner of New York T. R. sent over 40 Jewish officers. (Yes the event was used in "Blue Bloods" on TV only they made it a r****t and the cops were all black. I thought it was funny as hell and a great idea.)

There are many others throughout the book but here is a collection of some of the best from Chapter Two, page 26:
