It was obviously dinner time at the wetlands. The great blue heron had a nice dinner. I was about to take a photograph of an osprey eating a fish when I turned around and up popped this anhinga with its' dinner. He struggled to maneuver the fish around so that he could swallow it. It didn't work out so well...
Gotcha!
OK - gotta get you turned around!
Come on - hold still!
Oh Crap!
He dove after the fish - I never saw him surface, and dont' know if he ever caught it again!
Really nice series Steve....well done and thanks for sharing!!!
How numerous to see how the Anhinga handles his lunch. It is a wonder they don't starve!
Great set, Steve, and guess sometimes this even happens to Anhinga, if perhaps only briefly!

Always enjoy bird pictures, especially those eating their favorite food. Nice sequence, but I need to ask; did you happen to see how the Heron managed the rather plump fish he had in his beak?

He waited for a while - I guess for it to stop struggling - and then dropped it down in the reeds where we couldn't see what he was doing with it. So no great photos of him trying to swallow it!
