In another thread minniev proposed a learn and share for tiny creatures and I posted these as part of that thread. Also specified was some hints and tips for taking the photos.
#1 Fly + Aphids 6D, Tamron 180 macro, 1/250 @ f/16, ISO 800
#2 Lady Bug + Aphids 6D, Tamron 180 macro, 1/250 @ f/16, ISO 640
#3 Skipper - standing tall 6D, Tamron 180 macro, 1/250 @ f/11, ISO 320
I used a longer macro lens here, sometimes I use a 1.4X extender with it, sometimes I use a 100-400 L Mk II often with a 1.4X.
All of these were in bright sun or open shadows but I also use a flash at times, in some cases with High Speed Sync to freeze wings etc.
A tripod can help but I usually use a pistol grip on the lens' tripod mount since it is handier for moving around. (I don't like monopods)
I will watch a while to see which plants the action is around and then sit in a lawn chair just waiting. (I have a terraced yard and the level where my potted plants are is just under waist high above the concrete pool deck. Add on the pot and plant height and that puts me nearly level with the flowers and critters.)
Call it ambush photography, grow plants that attract the critters and then sit in ambush until you get a chance at a good shot.

A good series of photographs.
Thank for the method and set-up.
Good set Robert, I liked the lady bug and aphids, it is sharp all the way through. I like the method to your madness on shooting them too.
Wow a great series 2 is fantastic.
Great set of macro's. Lens did a good job, I have the equivalent Sigma lens.
