American Bittern at the Viera Wetlands

A lovely Thanksgiving morning for a walk. We always see something new or at least very interesting when we take a walk at the wetlands. This morning we watched an American Bittern wander around searching for food. I am sooo pleased with my new Canon 6D! These were taken with the Canon 100-400 L (version I).

Steve, these are outstanding. The Bittern is not the easiest bird to get a clear shot of and these have great detail!

Thanks, Carol. I was really surprised to see him strutting alongside the road. His cousin, the least bittern, is more common here - but THEY are really tough - they stay along the water side of the reeds and are very secretive.
