I was just walking through a park in Richmond, VA practicing a variety of shots. At one point I decided to sit for awhile and take some long-range shots of some Mallards. Hearing a noise a few feet over my head, this is what I saw over a period of several minutes.

Nice Photo's. The red headed woodpecker is on the endangered speices list. I found this out when a pair nested in a dead pine tree in my yard and the power company wouldn't cut the tree down intill the nest was clear. Here is some shots. I hope you don't mind me adding to your post.

The female was watching him and inspecting his work! I realy enjoyed watching the pair.

Don't mind at all. They are such pretty birds. Same trip, but in another part of the country (Owensboro, KY) ran I lucked into the next shot of a female robin keeping her eggs warm. The tree happened to be in our daughter's front yard.

I grew up in Ohio and my wife in Indiana. As retirees living in Florida, we only get to see Robins when they are passing through heading South (Fall) or North (Spring), unless that is we travel to visit our kids and grandchildren.

Great shots. But, this is not a Redheaded Woodpecker. It is a Red Bellied Woodpecker. Unusual name, as the red belly is very faint. Redheads are solid black & white, W/ red head (obviously) Just a minor point of clarification.
