Here's an image of the train that rides the rails between Durango and Silverton.

My wife and I took that train during a stay there 18 years ago. To this day it is the most picturesque railroad trip I have been on. Once away from the station, we saw areas where we couldn't find anything man-made, except for the rails themselves. It was awesome. I highly recommend that trip.

This is a great trip! you usually see several backpackers on it. they get off at a stop in the wilderness and get back on when they're ready come come back out. you can ride in the open which comes with lots of cinders from the steam engine or in a enclosed car which limits your photo ops. Very scenic, I highly recommend it but one of the best kept secrets is to take the bus one way and the train the other for even greater photo ops.

It is a spectacular trip as we made it a few years ago and I still look at the images from that trip and relive it often. Beautiful shots.

Hmmm, Great shot, my grandfather was a railroad man he would loved this picture too. A lot of nostalgia in that picture.

Great photos. We rode our first train in Arizona last year. It was the Verde Canyon Railroad. We loved it and consider it to be the highlight of our trip to Sedona. It was awesome to see the land knowing the only way to see it was by the train we were on. We hope to make other train trips in the future.
