About half way there....and not too impressed with the results - probably due to the imager!

Uncropped NGC2403 using 81 subs, 20 darks, 100 bias, 150 flats. The exposures were 240 seconds at ISO 800 and used the Nikon D800e (Modified) I used the 12 inch Vixen VCM260L (modified SCT). I plan to add another 80 or so tonight - weather permitting!

Overall I am not really impressed with the scope - this is my first time using it. It does have a 3,000mm focal length. But...I am used to more subs than 81 too. So, if I can add another batch of equal data quality - perhaps it will be a game changer for those far-away DSO's.

Very nice shot Ed. I see little red ghost in the lower left of each star, could that be a slight collimation issue???

I am sure there are collimation issues - my son bought the scope in France and shipped it on a container-ship back to the states. It took two months to get here....not too sure what it was doing once it arrived in the states. For the time being...I am just curious as to the image IQ and perhaps 80 plus more subs will do the trick....but I have a suspicion that it will not amount to a significant difference. I may just see what happens when I aim the beast at the moon/planets. The jury is still out :)

Well, if you want to throw it away, you can throw it my way.
If I can't fix it, then it's broke for sure. Or it'll be broker...

You guys need to realize you can't expect stellar results at first, give it some time to sort out any quirks.

OK, got to post this before Jim gets ahead of me...

Haven't heard from Jim in a week maybe he's stuck on the mountain.

That's a fairly small target, so that's a Very good shot. Not to say that doubling up won't give you more detail and clean up some noise, but this is a nice photo.

On a scope this size collimation being off a little will really skew your results. If you haven't checked it you should. It might be the issue.
But that's a nice first outing.

I still have to agree that fixing the collimation will clean up the IQ.

PS: Jim finally got off the mountain. Haha

Not sure if this gives you any point of reference, this is 60 subs of 180 seconds on the Fireworks Galaxy. Looking forward to your doubling up.
