I want to see if anyone out there is using the Nikon 18-300mm lens.
I travel to shoot events, trade shows, board meetings and all the various support speakers that surround the meetings. I shoot with a Nikon 810 and travel with a 24-70, a 70-200 and a 60mm macro lens.
The 18-300mm seems like it would be a all in one lens for this type of shooting. Grant it, I realize it will not be as fast as the lens I've been lugging around on by belt, but is it worth the $$$ to pick one up and see? Does anyone use this lens and if so... your thoughts? Thank You
It's arriving Monday, I'll let you know.
You should consider the 28-300 FX lens. It is good for travel and those times that switching lenses is not practical.
I have one and LOVE it! Probably a professional or technical photographer could find faults with it, but I totally enjoy it for most of my serious hobby shooting. Sure am glad I don't have to switch lenses anymore like I used to for changing from wide angle to telephoto shooting.
I have one on my 7100 a DX camera and love it, it is my walk around lens. You have an FX if I were you I would go for the 28-300 which is made for FX cameras.

Sounds like we do some of the same stuff.
Forget the 18-300...it's made for a
crop sensor camera and would be a waste on
your full-frame Nikon D810.
You could consider the
28-300 FX lens as its full-frame bigger brother.
Very versatile and pretty decent performer.
I've used it, but find it noticeably slower to use for some venues.
I much prefer the newest version of the
24-120 f/4.
It's wider on the short end, a bit sharper at wider apertures and has a constant max aperture of f/4 throughout the zoom range.
Hardly use my 24-70 anymore but I still carry my 70-200 on a
Lens Flipper.....No more gadget bag!

I tested this lens & the Tarmon 16-300. Went with the Tamron. Light weight & sharp. I shoot with D500 Nikon. 📸📸📸📸

I have the Nikon 28-300 FX, not DX lens. I use it on the D810. If you are planning to carry it around for a long time be aware of the weight of this combo. It is very sharp. I tend to mount it on my D 500 for greater reach.
Good advice and thank you.
My 28-300 FX lens was not sharp, heavy and I got rid of it
My experience with this lens was also soft. It is not a pro lens and the quality is inconsistent. Some are good - some are not. I replaced it with tack sharp AF 80-200mm F/2.8D and AF-S 300mm f/4. Both excellent lenses that I bought used.

Do your home work and get the 28mm-300mm. I travel more than most. I leave the fast heavy lenses at home unless I'm shooting wildlife or models.
It was my walk around lens when I was using D7100. I took it Asia trip. I liked it very much.

The Tamron is a DX lens as well.
Again, that lens would be a waste on the OP's full-frame camera.
