Just a thought: If everyone is seemingly having Black Friday sales before Black Friday, why have a Black Friday at all?

I have never participated in the mess myself.

Maybe getting like Christmas sales. Starts early. All about marketing.

I never participate either. In my opinion, merchants know that the buying public will purchase anything as long as it's on sale, with coupon, discount, ... It's a game and many are willing to play. If you take the bait and visit the store, brick and mortar or online, even if the "black market items" are sold out, you'll purchase something.

While I don't participate, I do know the why and can guess the when (it started.) I think it started in the 80's when we were in a bit of a recession. People hadn't been buying much except the necessities. As a result many stores were running in the red (taking a big loss for the year.) This was an attempt to "get back in the black" before the end of the year. It probably still applies to some stores. That's the "why" of it all.

I guess 'Black Friday' is next week but at a Best Buy in Ft Myers, there is already a tent out front. Nuts

I did the Black Friday sale one time and I am now smart enough to stay away from it. People get retarted when this thing starts! Pushing, shoving, waiting in line for hours to check out and then hours to get out of the traffic. It's not worth it to me. Like you stated most stores are offering pre Black Fridy deals so why have a Black Friday.

Now there's sales on Thanksgiving Day !
So instead of having memories of Thanksgiving with your family , you can look back on standing in lines in a Department Store .
No thanks .

I have never done the "Black Friday" thing and never will. BUT, it is a good time to grocery shop. Where I live the grocery stores are empty that day. Your experience may vary😐.

A sale is a sale. It's all about moving product.

I participated once. Home Depot had a table saw I wanted. 20 minutes to drive there, walked in, got the saw, walked out and went home.

I would hope that everyone would boycott Thanksgiving sales. Keep the stores empty, so that in the future they will not open on Thanksgiving. Those employees need to be home with their families.

My son works at Lowe's, which is closed on Thanksgiving. Yesterday, a man got very angry that he wouldn't be able to shop there on Thanksgiving. Ridiculous!

People are followers like a sheep and anyone a little smarter can be the shepherd...On this times of technology we can say that people are programmable...
