"Fake news" has been in the news a lot lately. It seems that the more fantastic the story is, the more willing people are to believe it and pass it on. The National Enquirer has been making money from American gullibility for decades.

As an antidote to fake news, including biased and intellectually dishonest reportage, a citizen must keep his thinking cap on.

Please note that the news media workers earn their pay and hold their job foremost by typing interesting text, in order to build audience share to please advertisers who pay the news media outlets according to audience share.

News media outlets function primarily as profit-making enterprises.

Hence, the quest for the dollar distorts reportage.

In turn, news media workers routinely violate their credo of truth-telling, to the detriment of national dialog.

So you know for next time:

Simple Definition of antidote

: a substance that stops the harmful effects of a poison

: something that corrects or improves the bad effects of something

Simple Definition of anecdote

: a short story about an interesting or funny event or occurrence

Fake news (lies of all kinds) has been at work for a long, long time!! No wonder---even our religions, our modern advertisements, etc., etc. has been going on as lies ever since I can remember! I just accept all this as "human nature" --same as giving human beings a "ball" and they will use it to amuse themselves and others; i.e. roll it (bowling, etc.), hit it with some kind of bat (base ball, etc.), punch it with a stick ( pool, billiards), throw it through "holes" (basketball, tennis, etc.), kick it, run with it, etc.)----. I could go on and on -- it is in the nature of the human animal. We study ourselves and come up with ways to take advantage of others which is codified into laws with legitimate backup from the "police", etc. Dam! What a "can of worms!" It would be halarious if it wasn't so pathetic!

Our small newspaper last week had an article from the news reporter saying that journalists do not lie and only report the truth. It sounded like he really believed what he was saying. unbelievable.

The liberal main stream media is out to destroy anyone who is not on their bandwagon. It's called censorship; just as you tube and goole have been doing lately. More and more the liberals are controlling anything and everything we hear. Welcome to 1939 Nazi Germany.

Fox news is liberal; just not as biased as the rest are. A hard core liberal will think that fox is conservative for sure, but any non liberal will know the difference.

Even the venerable NYTimes has lost credibility with its (in the leftist bag) "journalists". I no longer subscribe to that publication, or most of the biased, leftist sites.

The media just got a cold bucket of ice water thrown over their heads and it's called Trump . Political correctness which is " speech control " are the same tactics used in Germany in the 1930's . Liberal progressives are nothing more than storm troopers parading around as compassionate do-gooders . Nothing could be further from the truth . Where was the compassion for the average middle class working guy ?

There was also a fake report that Clint Eastwood had passed away. After researching it turned out to be a hoax.

I think you should have read the entire sentence in that post. The writer did use antidote correctly and most likely does know the difference between antidote and anecdote.

Some one said: if you don't read the news you are uninformed but if you read it you are misinformed. That is very true but we can learn to read ( or listen ) "between lines". Use our brains and try to find the facts. Actually we are getting more the opinion of the newscaster or newspaper than the facts that should be the only thing to inform about.
For the TV News I jump between Fox and CNN and most of the time I got two very different versions on the same subject. Which one do you think is more acceptable? After a quick evaluation It is up to you...
