I will be very distracted for a while...
...because this morning while my daughter was walking our two little dogs a German Shepard in a yard she passes everyday got out through an unlatched gate and attacked my little Jack Russell mix Tara, no barking or anything just grabbed her and starting shaking her, Jasmine pulled the dog off Tara and it went after Toby (my wife's Shin Zhu), pulled it off Toby and it went after Tara again. It had Tara by her neck shaking her*, one large wound down to muscle and numerous little ones. Even Jasmine's pepper spray didn't stop the attack. At that point a couple of people joined Jasmine and held the other dog. The Vet was afraid to give her a general and do surgery because her heart was out of synch. She is 7 and the Vet said the shock and pain may have caused a mild heart attack. So she got stitched up, two different pain killers and antibiotics, dressings etc. She is very quiet but refuses to stay on the bed with heating pad Debra made for her in the living room. As soon as I got home from my eye doctor appt. she insisted on being on her folded sleeping bag in front of my TV in the family room. Probably because this room is where I spend most of the day with them. Later I will go back up front and see if she will stay there to be with me, I can sleep in the lounge chair so she can be close. Toby was protected by his hair, only a couple of small punctures, but he is also subdued and quiet. They both want a lot of attention and love.
*Tara is only 18 1/2 lbs, the Shepard was a large male, at least 4-5 times her weight/size

Very sorry to hear about that. Best wishes.

Thanks. They are both quiet. Toby is eating, Tara would only eat my wife's cooked chicken out of her hand. She is resting and will wag her tail when I pet her. The pain killers have taken effect so she can rest without hurting. (Tramadol, same stuff they gave me when I blew out my knee.) Toby is under my desk and Tara is on her folded sleeping bag in front of the TV.
I'm sorry to hear about this traumatic attack, Robert. I hope everybody (human and canine) recovers completely.

I would watch her very closely overnight.
Hi Rober,
Sorry to hear about the attack, and I really hope it all goes well.
One thing I know about those little cuties is that they are tougher then they look. The family and the home is going to be the best therapy.
Wish you the best and hope for a quick recovery.

Hope they both recover quickly Robert and your daughter too, terrible thing to happen.

She curled up in front of the TV while I watched my recorded shows, Toby came out and then went to sleep on the sleeping bag with her. All is peaceful now.

Thanks a lot. She is 1/2 Jack Russell and they are tough little things. My wife had be close off the doggie door so she doesn't go out to chase the squirrels from the bird feeders. The family room is tile and I can clean it in the morning if they can't wait.

Thank you, things seem to be recovering well. My daughter is mainly mad about what happened. My petite 5'3"-123 lb daughter pulling a very large German Shepard off our little dogs with her hands, and spitting mad that the pepper spray didn't drive it away when she sprayed it in the face.

So pleased it didn't turn on your daughter too, in the UK it would be reported as a dangerous dog

Sorry to hear the pepper spray did not work. Was the spray specifically formulated for canine use? I read somewhere that anti-human spray is not effective on dogs. I purchased one for repelling dogs to carry on my bicycle, but as yet have not had to use it. It's called "MUZZLE" personal dog repellent. I could only find this product on eBay. Glad to know the pooches are recovering.
My rescued Jack Russell, who does not like other dogs, attacked a full size (100 lbs?) poodle and won! Other than that she's a lover. Good luck with yours. All dogs are great!
