Do Nik filters still work in PhotoShop CC 2017?

I just did the latest PS CC upgrade and notice that Nix Filters are no longer listed on my Filters options. Can I reinstall them or are they no longer compatible? I see the Nix filters are now free that worries me, because nothing worth while is free.

yes but every time you upgrade you have to go to the nik website download and reinstall.

Yes. Just reinstall them. Go to your "download" folder, find the latest setup for NIK application. Double click it and it should reinstall the filters. Make sure PS is closed before installing.

Easiest solution that worked for me (using an iMac) was simply to move the Plug-ins folder from its old location to the new Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 folder. When you did your install of Adobe Photoshop CC 2017, that folder should not have been deleted.

Thank you. I'll do that. I know I have my passwords stored someplace.

Unfortunately, I purged my download folder. The good news is that I just discovered that I still have them in Lightroom. The PS version is more powerful because I can "select" portions of an image and apply the filter to only that selection. That's a powerful combination. I'll need to do as tpelczy suggested and download them again.

BTW, I remember that I used Nik Polarizing filter after selecting just the sky within PS to make this image. I wonder why this great tool is now free?

When PS is updated the old version is deleted except for the "Plug-ins", on my MAC navigate to Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC "Old version"/plugins/filters and find the NIK stuff, in my case they were in a folder labeled "Google", copy these to to the Filters folder of the new version

AS others have noted you can also reinstall from the Google site

Thanks all I found the filters on an earlier version of PS and did copy and paste. It seems to have worked, but now it's asking me for my name and product key. I know I saved that I just got to find it. :-)

Problem solved Thanks everyone.

Download and run Belarc advisor. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html It lists all components of your PC and serial numbers associated with installed programs.

Yes. They work just fine.

You can reinstall them - many do. But if you are familiar with where they are in your older version of PS, and where they should be in the newer version, you can move them yourself. All PS needs is to see them on startup, which it does if you have them in the right place.

Love, sunrise sunset ... lots of things are free and worthwhile. How much are you paying to post here ... maybe arguing against myself there but there are gems.

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants. " Issac Newton.

That is kind of how software engineers think, linux is built on the work of many many people you get given a lot of stuff free and really the way you pay back is by contributing back something yourself, you don't have to but if you do it is well received.

That was bit strange but all's well that ends well. I copied and pasted them from and old version of PS. It asked me for my name and product key. I typed the information in but the only option that then worked was "BUY". When I hit the buy button I was told that it's now free and was given an option to download them for free. I did download and reinstalled them. Everything seems to working fine now.

Again, Thanks for all the help.

Thank you for the comment on my sunset. That photo was taken from the balcony off my bedroom. I had never heard that quote from Issac Newton. Speaking of giants!!!

I like to think I pull my own weight here on UHH by answering the occasional question, or sharing a worthwhile photo. I have learned a lot here.

I expect to have the new Sony A99II in my hands next month. (just a few weeks away) I happen to own 20 A-Mount lenses that will work on it. Five of my lenses are reported to be 100% compatible with this camera and the new dual focus system. I plan to take a few photos with it and post them here on UHH. Sadly all the leaves are already down in my part of the world. I'll find something worthwhile to photograph and share.

I had to try it out now that I downloaded and reinstalled the filters. I used a photo I took this spring that needed some help. See attached photo.

Thanks.

Why would you want to continue using Nik after stating, anything free is no good???
