I also have a D7100 and just checked mine. The on/off ring should not be loose. Mine is not. Time to call Nikon customer support and ask to have a shipping label sent to you so that you can send it in for repair.

That switch on my D7200 is not "loose."
Time to contact Nikon!

Took my D7200 to Midwest Camera Repair which is an authorized Nikon repair center. The tech who works on the D7100, same body as D7200, looked at my camera and told me the movement I think is being loose is normal. He said the power dial is nothing more than a plastic cup with the shutter button shaft passing through a small hole in the bottom. The movement is less than 1/2mm and is perfectly normal. Everything does work fine so I am relieved it was not an issue. He also commented my D7200 is better than the D7100 cameras he has seen.

I have a D800 where the power switch tends to be a bit grabby. When I turn the camera on it's like dragging the switch over fine sandpaper. My other DSLRs - D200 and D3 have the same switch but it's nice and smooth. I did send mine in under warrantly but it came back exactly the same. Either they didn't bother to fix it or they considered it normal. I can't say.

I think probably my switch might be insufficiently processed during the manufacturing process but then since it works fine I suppose Nikon considers it ok after all. It could be the same with yours, maybe they made a half million that were a bit too thin and you just happen to have two of them. Well it they work I guess there's nothing lost.

Mine D7200 power switch is smooth. Just loose enough that if you tap your finger on it there is a just enough play in it to make a sound. Works fine. Like the tech told me. The power dial does not control anything directly it just flips a switch on an off. The little play it has is normal and can very. Will not effect anything. I was just concerned the switch was loose and could come off. Since it is normal I shall enjoy my new camera.
