D7100 cracked power switch ring

The power switch ring around the shutter button is cracked. I called Nikon and was told this was a user replaceable part and referred to the parts department.
Has anyone ever dealt with this issued before? I am inclined to think the person at Nikon does not know what they are talking about. Can not be that simple.
