For your philosophical and intellectual pleasure, here are a smorgasbord of images from around where I live. Despite England's reputation for being soggier than a week old teabag, the sun does occasionally put in an appearance.

Please enjoy and comment as you see fit :-)

Man, those are all great pictures! Can you explain the Magnesia works, such as why is it built that way?

Oh boy, that's a story. Known as the Steetley Magnesia Works, located in Hartlepool on the NE coast of England, it was the largest facility for the manufacture of magnesium hydroxide from seawater in the world. The plant closed in 2005 and was partially demolished but left most of the enormous settler and reaction tanks virtually intact.

Up until a few weeks ago, the whole derelict plant was accessible and last year I did an extensive photo essay of the 27 acre site. Now the demolition crews are razing the entire site to the ground and by the end of the year, this once vital part of British industrial history will be consigned to memory.

There's a fascinating potted history of the place at http://magworks.co.uk.

Thank you, Steve. That shot was more dumb luck than anything. I parked the camera on the tripod and sat off to one side triggering the remote furiously. 40-odd shots later, I got that one.

The other thing I remember from this is that the Baker rifle is bloody LOUD! Note to self: next time you do this, take some ruddy earplugs with you

Thank you, Torenaga-san. I suspect there are two of those pics you recognise judging by your location :D

BTW, are you a fan of Calvell's Shōgun, by any chance?

Ah yes, the grand old lady of Teeside herself. Just turned 100 and still in perfect working order and in use daily.

Your images are excellent. I particularly like the ones where you have used a photo to frame a second view.
