Video - Full Frame + TC Or Crop Camera?

Hey everyone :)

I just released a new video that discusses the differences between using a full frame camera and a teleconverter or just switching to a crop camera for the same field of view. I know the question comes up from time to time (and I see in in my inbox very frequently), so hopefully the video and accompanying sample shots will help put it to rest a bit.

Enjoy:

Thanks, Steve. I saw the video earlier this morning. I'm not understanding the ISO advantage of FX but it may be something simple I'm missing. Could you briefly explain that please? Thanks.

It can get complicated, but the main thrust of it is simply this - a full frame sensor has a larger imaging area and in turn can use larger photo sites (pixels) to capture the image. The larger the pixels, the less noise you have since they can gather more light than their smaller counterparts. This results in cleaner files and less noise in the final image.

I hope that helps. I should probably do in in-depth video or article on it one day.

Very good video. For we, cost was a major consideration in buying a 1.4 TC, compared with a longer lens.

Yup, everything has to be weighed - there are a ton of options out there. People want a one-size-fits-all answer, but the truth is, it ALWAYS depends!
