Ok, everyone get out your cameras and lenses to get your pictures of moon. Show time for Eastern part of the United States, will be Sunday's night until Monday's morning. Moon will come closest approach will be at 6:23AM EST, Monday's morning. News is saying all of North America will be able to see it, if you have clear sky in your area that night. Happy Hunting. Weatherman in these parts is calling for clouds and rain. I'm hoping that comes in later in the day and that I can at least get a shot of the setting moon on Monday. Good luck with all the others, look forward to seeing some great shots!

We haven't had rain for months, but I bet we'll get it on the 14th.

I was hoping to try for a shot, but our weather forecast is uncertain at best. I also read on some Astronomy post that the "best" shooting time and the closest approach to earth will be about 8:54 AM EST--nice, don't have to get up in the middle of the night, but also said it would be in the North East to Eastern sky. At that time of the morning it is almost full daylight here with the sun also rising in the east. How do you shoot the moon with the sun in close proximity??
I'll be using a Canon 60D and a Tamron 70-300 mm lens.

I'm hoping to shoot the moon at it's setting on Monday morning, 6:35 a.m. With the calls for clouds and rain Monday, I'm hoping there's no clouds and rain early.

Im going to try and get it coming up. May head to Jersey shore and see if I can get moon and light house in same shot.
or if the weather isn't looking too good I may try and get it over a local lake.
Take a picture of the Moon and then take one of the Lighthouse if you can't get them together, then blend them in Photo shop.
This will be a once in a lifetime chance to get a photo of a full moon.
Supermoon, Full Moon or near Full Moon sounds great, but really is a photographer's nightmare. Here are the two problems. The light illuminating the full moon is full frontal light, just as if you used the built in flash. Have you noticed that the built in flash makes subjects look flat. You will get a better picture of the moon if you go for the quarter moon with the sun to the side. Second, the moon is in full sunlight, just as if you were taking a picture at a sunny noontime! Your exposure to get the features on the moon will be close or same as a sunny noon exposure. So you can use fill flash, post photograph processing, overexpose the moon, or have everything but the moon dark/black. (go manual!) If you want to the moon to fit any features, check out the photographer's ephemeris! It gives the location of the sun & moon (azimuth and altitude) for any geographical location at any date/time. And the display is easy to understand on the maps it provides.

If you can get it sneaking thru those clouds you might get a great shot. Sometimes bad situations can yield a great shot.

That is very true! Gonna go out to see for sure.
You can practice shooting the moon now (7:30 PM). It is visible and no clouds.
