There's enough of that elsewhere.
Did anyone watch the post-meeting photo OP of the POTUS and POTUS elect who noticed the camera noise? OMG that was distracting! Looks like it may have even distracted both men. I'm sure a lot was mic placement, but the station I watched (MSNBC) was really loud. (I used to be a newspaper photog, and am familiar with the situation though not at this level)
My Nikon D810 is really quiet compared to the 800 but if you get a room full of them, I'm sure it could be deafening. With the frame rate I heard, I know they weren't using one of those anyway. Probably mostly Canon cannons.
Should they limit it to only Olympus or Panasonic cameras?
How quiet is your camera?

Yup - I just watched a clip of it on CBS and the shutter noise was the first thing I noticed. No idea why it was so loud, but I remarked on it to my husband who responded with, "What are you talking about?". But then, he turns the volume on the TV volume up to something north of 50.

I noticed as well. You can tell from the noise the photographers were shooting in bursts. My 5DIII is rather (very?) quiet in 'silent continuous'. But, the mirror slaps in the photo op were all from high speed cameras shooting in their highest fps mode. Alas, 'silent continuous' is a pokey 3 frame / second ...

I've just added the X-Pro2 to my X-T1, both completely different (quieter) to my (now departed) D700, and both with mechanical AND electronic shutter choices. The electronic shutter is, of course, SILENT !
And you might enjoy reading this short piece by a UK X-Photographer and listening to his recording of the X-Pro2's mechanical shutter sound.

I think if there were 20 of them in that room the noise would be just as loud.

Can't speak to this specific case but quite often the sound sounds of the cameras are very obvious - it simple comes with the territory. These are photo ops. Limiting camera noise would be like asking people to be quite in a football game as they call the plays. I can just see the sign "only quite cameras please".
Somehow I suspect those closest to the mikes are pros which means they have cameras that shoot quiet and don't bother.
Some times the camera noise is better than what is being said. :) :)

Yes, I noticed the noise too. Really annoying. It must have been the placement of microphones. Amateurish set ups for the news media. Were some of the media possibly shooting film with a motor drive -- totally old school? You might have said POTUS and PEOTUS. My main camera is a virtually soundless Pentax K-5, my K-20 & K-100 make louder sounds.

On my list to upgrade or supplement my X-E2 some day!!!!!
I recently upgraded to a Canon 80D from a T2i. It is significantly quieter.

Ah, I'm smilin' at the wise words of a Canon 7DMkii user who "thinks" but doesn't know for sure ! Are you speaking from experience, hearsay, or what exactly? My educated guess ? Nah, shan't bother !

Move it up your list quickly - I'm sure you're up to date on its performance.

There aren't any wihin 4 hours of here.
Trip to St. Louis (or Chicago) is in order.
Silent mode on the EM1...is just that...silent. My breathing makes more noise. Of course this means using the electronic shutter mode, which can cause issues with fast moving objects (rolling shutter). They've improved rolling shutter quite a bit with the new em1ii.

I remember how quiet mine was.
That's why I mentioned Olympus.
My mind is too programmed for Nikon (and Fuji) to switch. I know, I tried and really wanted to make it work. Now they update the E-M1 with the MKII and offer a 12-100 f/4 lens (24-200 equivalent)....they're killin' me, Clint!
