Magpie's are typically pretty bashful birds. These seemed to be concentrating on harassing the bull and not paying attention to me so I got better shots than normal. The birds would land on his horns and pick bugs out of his hair, then the bull would shake his head and send off. They would circle around and come in for a landing.
Two in bush and one on the horns
Getting airborne
Gliding in for a landing
He has something in his beak. He would hold it with his foot and work at it with his beak
I see them on cattle and deer, picking out ticks and what-not. Fun shots with the longhorn!
I bet that was fun to watch Dave.
Great shots of those beautiful birds. After seeing them in Alaska I wondered why we've never had Magpies in the East? Looks like they survive just about anywhere.
Good shots, Dave! They're doing the longhorn a big favor...but he probably doesn't know that!
