Oh my, the stories they could tell! I'm a little creeped out by the idea that #1 could be a skull and #2 a human bone, but #3 would surely be worth digging out to find if there is more than meets the eye.

suggestion: I wouldn't submit these to the Kauai Chamber of Commerce

Ahh Linda, you are so funny! #3 was permanently encased-we tried😎 You are right, this place was not in all the guide books!! Very strange for Hawaii, but it can't all be palm trees.....
Like your avatar too. If I see you somewhere now I might recognize you. πŸ‘

Number three looks like it is still trying to churn through the muck. What a great place. I would spend hours photographing these items and trying to figure out where they came from. Good post.

thanks! That is Treepusher's creative artistry; looks far better than the live view, believe me

Thank you Erich. It was an unusual place, and right across the road is an old cemetery too! Fascinating area.

The items are indeed fascinating and if they were posted purely for journalistic reasons no need to read further.
As this basically a photographic forum I tend to assume people are looking for comments on technical and composition aspects of their posts? All these have the makings of a good fota but as presented here fall well short. They have the look of straight out of camera holiday snaps that a relative small amount of PP could turn into lovely images. No idea of what software you have access to or your skill level or to be perfectly honest if you feel these are the finished article?
If you are of the opinion that they could be better or indeed posted them for advice or help Im sure if you let the members know what PP software you have and your skill level at present we can between us make very presentable images out of what you have posted. Im not going to talk layers masking lifting shadows etc etc without you knowing what it is at this stage of your PP journey.
If you require help to release the potential of what you have then many here will willingly help you. If you feel they are OK as they are you may get opinions that differ from yours. I would suggest if you decide you would like to see the improvements other members can make you let them know its OK to edit your work and post the results back here.

Well hello and welcome to the FYC, the place where you expect that your snaps will receive considered scrutiny.

Those who know me rightfully expect me to pull no punches so with the utmost respect and with the will to assist you in achieving a greater understanding of what turns a good snap into a great snap please accept the following as being with the intent to guide rather than simply denounce.

These three are a typical example of being the work of a pointer and shooter. "Ooh look, there's something interesting right there! Point camera, making sure to fill the frame...."

Click.

There! Got it, job done.

No particular thought other than getting a snap of a thing. No "artistic" composition, no interesting point of view, no waiting for better light, just a quick snap in bright sunshine.

Sure the subject is of interest but not sufficiently so for the viewers' overall reaction to the image to be any more than an average snap of some discarded relics.

(Come around to my house any Saturday night after the pub closes and you'll meet any number of discarded relics....)

Those who make interesting photographs rather than simply happy snaps are those who think outside the box.

If you have seen before what you see through the viewfinder as you are contemplating a shot it is probably best to forget it.

I meant to post these to the thread "show us your rusty ol stuff" -- sorry about the error. I do understand the purpose of FYC. My error.😟

I'm actually not sure FYC has a purpose other than for folks to enjoy at a level that suits them in a way that suits them. And yes if you do start a new thread it will often be assumed it for some sort of critique or advice but not a problem you can still post them into the Dusty Rusty thread and I'm sure no one will object.

I recognized these are part of the Rusty Old Stuff obsession, and as a fellow obsessive, invite you to add them over there where the other obsessives can be sure to see them. The thread is still a busy thing! There are more of us than Jim Bob and I even expected. That buried wheel thingy is really cool but I'm curious about the one that looks like a dog bone...

Thank you minniev. I will do that. I was in too much of a hurry yesterday morning-should stay away from the computer on those days! I wish I could tell you more about the "dog bone". This area use to be a dump and the locals would bring wrecked equipment and autos so there are tons of odd pieces still being reclaimed by the sea and permanently imbedded in the rocks and trees along with the beach which is crushed and tumbled glass.
