If you had to pick one lens that would stay on the camera (Nikon D7200) the majority of the time which one would you pick.

If you want good reach and 18-300mm if you are looking for a more moderate reach an 18-140mm would work if you need something for low light and don't need the reach a 50mm f1.8 or f1.4 will work.

I have your D7200 and own the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8.

Four months ago I bought the 18-300 3.5-6.3 and haven't taken it off the camera since the first time I put it on.

(It's a little cheaper, a little slower, and a little better than the older-but-still recent 3.5-5.6.)

Any deficiencies it has can be fixed in photoshop, and easily.

Just sayin'. I know what I would do, and I did it, and I'm happy about it.

I kinda like that new 8mm-1200mm mega-zoom. Light weight, only a few grams, and incredibly sharp.
Welcome to the Hog Steve.
Hope you enjoy the forum as much as I.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, and jus' ignore the sarcasm.

The key word is 'majority'. Without knowing the majority of the type of photography you do, a lens that covers the majority of the zoom range would eliminate the need to change lenses the majority of the time. If you shoot a lot of low light images or fast action, a fast lens would work the majority of the time. If you shoot landscapes, the majority of your shots would benefit from a wide angle lens. If sharpness is your goal, the majority would recommend a fixed lens.

Have I covered the majority of possibilities?

28-105mm AF D (42-158mm on crop sensor). It is a great lens and can be had in excellent condition on Ebay for a little over 100 bucks. 2nd choice would be a 28-85mm AF D (42-128mm on a crop sensor).

My 18-105mm lens stays on my D90 the majority of the time unless I specifically
Need longer zoom then I'll use the 55-300mm lens.

If I were to decide to fix only one lens to my camera and ignore all the wonderful choices that are available to me, I would sell my DSLR and just use my cell phone. The wonder and joy of a DSLR is the versatility of changing lenses for many reasons.

An 800mm f5.6...cause if I spent that much money on one lens, I'd be damn sure to get my money's worth by never taking it off...of course it might take you a couple lifetimes to recoup the money.

Nikon AF-S 24-120mm F4 VR Nano. Full frame lens but fantastic performance and GREAT range on the crop sensor, my favorite general purpose lens on my D500.

I have one camera with a 24-70 2.8 and one with a 70-200 2.8. I mostly use the 70-200.

Are you talking about the older f/2 version or the newer nano coated, constant aperture f/1.4?
