Life can seem strange, but numbers can help explain it - maybe.

I lived on a street years ago where 3 of us had the same birthday and lived within the confines of a 1/4 mile. The street was 1 1/4 miles long so I have no idea if there were
any other folks living there with the same birthday as the 3 of us. At another time I did run across one fellow who was born on the same day, same year, same hospital in a very large city.

What a coincidence!

I find it interesting when I see a report about twins who were separated at birth but grew up leading remarkably similar lives.

This came up in one of my college classes, many years ago.

The class had about 45 students.

We had 4 pairs of people with the same birthday.

We had 2 sets of 3 people who had the same birthday.

Seems to me that the question of how large a crowd has to be before anyone has YOUR birthday is different than the one of how large the crowd has to be before any two people have the SAME birthday. The article answers the second question, not the first. If you assume that birthdays are truly random, then the probability of a specific birthday is 1 in 365. But, after the power outage in NYC some years ago there was a spike in the births some nine and a half months later.

My brother had the same birthdate as I. Just 12 years apart. So neither of us had to look too far.

Any chance that your birthdays are 9 months after your folks' anniversary?

All through my school days with sometimes up to 30 people in our classes and at different schools I never had anyone with my birthday. In fact I have never met anyone in my life yet with my birthday 22nd October 1944
