When I originally asked about "story", I was simply saying that this sign seems to be on display - where is it on display and did they say where it came from or give some other particular reason for having it on display??? Apparently I'm the only one who cares about such things; I apologize for having disturbed the rest of you.
Neat one, Dave! I'd love to travel that route someday!
Technically, U.S. 66 no longer exists - I'm not sure whether any other U.S. route has been decommissioned, but it has. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_66 However, parts of it are still marked, either as "State Route 66" or as "Historic Route 66" (*), and there is information available to help you find it. http://www.historic66.com/
In fact, last Saturday, after I left my wife off at Chicago's Midway Airport, I drove on a few blocks of "Historic Route 66" as I was looking around the area before I headed home.
Needs a few bullet holes Lacking those, it's obvious it didn't come from Oklahoma
Or upstate NY. The state puts them up for the really, really bad hunters. They're big, yellow, and they stay put while the guy tries to hit them. As you can see, this deer would have escaped unharmed.
What is the story behind this image? {story always provides added value}
thank you for looking and commenting. the story as I know it is, I was at my son's and this sign was sitting on the floor leaning on the wall of his 4 season porch, my son collects signs and his wife found it, and got it for him. the reason I shot the image was I like the way it was displayed on what looked like a rusty map of the usa. I am also an old man and thing like this bring memory' s. as you can see every photo doesn't need a story as people this print tells a story of it own and a lot of people have made up there own story. dave
Not at all. There can be all kinds of background that is not captured by the camera and make the image important in some form. For example, "This sign was shot up during a fire-fight between Bonny & Clyde and local law enforcement." I always try to explain why I thought a image was worth posting.
How did someone from Minn photograph a "Route 66" {which went southwest from Chicago to Los Angeles} sign over a weekend? Is this in some museum for some reason?
Take a look: old, rusted, used up, just like Route 66. I think it tells its story very well. A good photo can tell its story without explanation, and I think this one does.
datsmar, Thanks so much for the picture of the route 66 sign. as a little boy I came across country from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1953 on Route 66. I think you'll like this site, too> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppw0Fq37r6o Ron Udkoff, Los Angles, CA
