The only advantages I see to it so far are in the Hero5 & those are the noise reduction & stabilization. The advantage they all have over the Hero4 is 30fps 4k video I have the hero4 silver and it's 15 frames per second 4K video is kind of herky jerky.

Thanks for your reply, as I"ve never owned a GoPro before, I think I"m going to pick up, the hero 5 Black today, as so i can enjoy it, on my upcoming cruise vacation, as it seems to be the right camera for snorkeling and the beach

Be sure to get the accessory pack that has the float for it.

I've been researching upgrading my GoPro Hero 3+ Silver to a 4K model and have not been impressed with what I've seen regarding the Hero 5. I'm not that sold on the "waterproofness" of the Hero5 as compared to the dedicated, very robust case used in the prior models. Although the camera is sportier looking and has a very usable rear touch screen, I think that is not that necessary with this type of camera. I also don't think the specs are that different from the Hero 4 Black. Most of my shooting has been videos or time lapse and has been taken from either a fixed mount or strapped to my head. At this point I think I will get the Hero 4 Black.

Wow, Well I just purchased the Hero 5 Black, i mainly purchased it, for my upcoming cruise vacation, for snorkeling and pool and beach adventures, I"ve been playing around with it, and the results of video and still photos are pretty good
i also purchased the underwater housing, just to play it safe, as a while back, I got burned by nikon, when I purchased the nikon 1 AW1 waterproof camera, that flooded the first time, i took it in the water in St maartin, as many other people did as well...that bought that awful camera.....After reading all the Gopro reviews , I feel this is the right camera with its 4K shooting abilities, and 12 Megs, it should do just fine, where i would not think of bringing my any of my other cameras...

It is a unique camera for sports and active people. I use it on my bike, on my helmet when sky diving, I also use it for scuba diving. My son mounts it on his surf board, I have mounted it on the front of the kayak. If you are using it as a regular video camera then it is not for you as it has an extremely wide angle lens designed for active sports.
