I am looking to purchase a new pc - just to be used for my photography. I want to get the best hardware to use for this - so am reaching out to get help from anyone with suggestions as to what things I need to be sure my laptop will have in order to work on a professional level with my photography.
I have been doing more photography - newborn, two senior photos, 3 family fall photos and 1 wedding within the past month with another wedding scheduled for Dec. So I need to have a pc that will be able to handle the editing in a variety of areas.
I appreciate any suggestions you can give me.

A Laptop with an Intel i7 processor, 12 gb of RAM, and 1TB of HDD, and loaded with Windows10. Find those features in a Dell, Asus, or Lenovo, and you should be in good shape. Dell would be my first choice. Try Costco if you are a member. Good luck.

I have used Dell laptops and desk tops until this year.
Windows machines invariably get slower and are subject to viruses of all kinds.
I recently bought an Apple Mac Book Pro and could not be happier. The retina display is magnificent, the speed is stunning compared to my other laptops.
Plus Apple uses flash memory over conventional hard drives, although you can use external hard drives if you like.
Apple does NOT have an optical drive, but you can buy one for short money.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop with windows 10, 8 gb memory, 1TB HD and HD display.
It is fast and has the best sound system of any laptops I have had.
I use this mainly for my photo editing. I also have an Acer Aspire laptop that I use for other things

will

Since you are reserving strictly for photos, I would get the top of the line Mac. They are the best for handling photos.

Have a Macbook Pro which I use strictly for photos. Could not be happier. Great screen resolution, faster than Windows, and I don't have to deal with security updates every other day. Pricey but worth it.

What OS are you more familiar with - Windows or OSX, and what aps are you planning on running? Rather than pick the HW first, consider picking the application(s) that you'll use and the OS you're familiar with, and then pick the appropriate HW (based on convenience, performance and cost) to run it on. Once you answer those questions, it will be easier to recommend the best solution.

Thank you. I use LR and PS for editing photos right now.
I am presently using Windows 10, also.

Then I would recommend a Windows I7 (perhaps the I7-6700 or I7-6800 series) based machine with 16GB (minimum) DRAM, 500GB-1TB SSD + a 7200 RPM ~4TB HD, a separate (not integrated) Video card/GPU with 2GB (min) memory, and a BluRay/Mdisk drive. If a desktop, I'd spec a 750w power supply (minimum) and good cooling fans. I'd also consider using m2 or nvme-attached SSD instead of SATA-attached if you can afford it. Also be sure to spec a 64 bit version of Windows 10. Add a good monitor, and if possible, a 2nd equivalent 4TB HD for mirroring (redundancy). This is a spec for a full-house machine that will support anything you want to do. You can order this custom-built for well less than 2K$ including monitor, or if your needs and budget are more modest, you can buy a nice I7 based machine for less than 1K$, with smaller/slower drives, and a slower I7 CPU, but don't skimp on the DRAM, SSD (even if you get only 250GB), or the 64-bit OS.

Btw, jerryc41 just built almost this exact machine after some pretty extensive research, so perhaps he can comment on the total price (less the monitor)

You can buy a fully loaded Dell XPS15 for $1800, an Apple 15" Mac Book with similar specs for $2600. Both will get the job done for you, let your budget decide.

It's a budget question. I switched from Dell to Apple and haven't looked back. I have a MacBook Pro with 16GB and an iMac with 32GB and an upgraded video card.
