I learned a lot of tricks from this section in the past. Members submitted challenges and other member showed their results using a large selection of software and techniques. I hope we can get it moving again.

I am posting an old train car that I shot last week in Sulphur Springs AK. The first one is right out of the camera. The second was done using 3 different software programs. 1) Photoshop made a duplicate layer. 2) used duplicate layer and used plug in Aurora HDR using just the one picture and turning it into HDR. This gave me a high contrast color look. Then saved. Made duplicate layer of this new HDR and Opened 3) Nix Silver Efex pro and made a B&W.Then saved. I then decided I didn't like just a B&W picture and wanted to bring back some color so on my B&W layer I changed the opacity to 80%.
Comments welcome.

Now let us see what you can do I attached a DNG file.

Here's my take on this old beauty.

Lowered exposure - a little dodge & burn - a little saturate boost.

Thanks

PS: Seems a little darker here in forum than on my monitor.

Decided on a fall look. I also added a stronger red rust look first .Tommy

I much prefer the original--the second image looks flat.

Went for a grungy look to bring out the rust.

In Lightroom I brought the clarity and sharpening right up and lowered the saturation to -50. Brought it into photoshop and in Nic's Vivisa effects upped the structure to +36.
Experimented with different paper textures (totally random trial and error) to achieve an effect I was happy with. Ended up using 3 textures at different opacities.

Alan.

Totally different version. I am assuming you used Topaz Glow on your version?

First very nice photo I love Post processing and appreciate any opportunity to play. I primarily use Lightroom and an occasional dable into PS. Here are a couple of renditions one maximizing the color effects of the rust and the other in B&W. I can't seem to get the photos to post! sorry!
