This is my first picture post at UHH.
Here are a few pictures of a fight sequence between two rival yellow jackets. The story is that we had a number of wind-fallen apples in our yard, and these were nibbled on by squirrels. This attracted insects, and among them were a number of our local yellow jacket species which is aptly named the downy yellow jacket (Vespula flavopilosa). They generally got along with each other, but not these two for some reason. No harm was done, so the fight was really pretty ritualized.
Good shots, great sequence of events amongst wasps. Kept the focus well.
Such an interesting series of photos! GREAT capture!

Excellent series! Tell us a bit about your field macro set-up.
We want to enlarge your images to appreciate detail & resolution, so please consider adding the same images to this thread, and check the box labeled (store original).
Ok! here you go. I hope I do this right.
As for equipment, at the time it was pretty basic. A Canon T5i body with what I think was my olde Canon 50 mm 1:1.8. To this I had some inexpensive extension tubes. I used a Neweer flash head and conical diffuser (I forget the exact brand, certainly nothing fancy). It was fun lying on my stomach, watching the drama over a bunch of old, fermenting apples.
