I bought a referb SB700 and it did not come with a manual.
I know it's online, I can download it and print it. Waste of paper and not too portable after it's printed.
I know I can use the Nikon Manual Viewer on my phone, too small and not really a viable tool to learn an new product.
Hence the search for a real printed manual.
People tend to not read the manual but want rather good money for it when they sell them on Ebay.

I would agree it's a waste of paper and not too portable if you were to print one page per sheet of paper.
That would be 164 sheets.
I print all my manuals myself, 4 pages per sheet (2 pages side-by-side, double sided). That reduces the paper to 41 sheets. I don't know if Staples will cut the pages for you, but they will definitely be happy to put a spiral through the pages to make it into a book.
(If you go that way, I suggest the spiral in preference over the comb binding. With the spiral you can fold the book all the way back).
Even at this size of printing, I find that it is still very readable, and fits easily in my camera bag.

I download the PDF of the manual and store it on DropBox so it is available on my cell phone or IPad

I'm just reading your message again and wonder: When you say "not really a viable tool to learn a new product" are you referring to the size of the manual on your Viewer, or are you referring to the contents of the manual?
"A real printed manual," even if you find one to purchase, would be identical to the on-line copy. Which is why I suggested printing it 4 pages per sheet of paper.
I do not know if there are manuals, handbooks, instruction books like there are for cameras, written by someone about the specific piece of equipment but for his own profit, not even affiliated with the manufacturer of the equipment.

Download the PDF onto your computer then ONLY print any pages that you might need. I have the SB800 and SB910 (printed) manuals in a bookcase and have probably only read them once (when I first got the strobes). I have the pdf copies on my desktop computers, laptop, and all cell phones and that (along with the printable pdf on the computer is plenty. I can go to the page with all of the button settings and either read it or print it out. Its not a big deal and I generally only end up wasting 4 or 5 pages and toner.

Then just print it in a size you consider portable, I don't see your problems!

manualsink.com has manuals for most DSLRs. They will print up to 8 1/2 x 11 book size. Price is very reasonable. Good luck.
