K-2SO on My Sideboard - For Star Wars Fans

My No.2 Son is a Concept Designer and Senior Sculptor working on the current series of Star Wars films and brought along a couple of models of his creation K-2SO, the seven-foot droid that will feature in Rogue One (in your cinema from 16th December). The droid has already been released by several model suppliers and comes in heights from around seven inches to two feet! Need some room if you start collecting figures that big. The Disney seven-inch version is by far the better of the two shown as it's die-cast and articulated, the taller one shown here is plastic and has no elbow or knee joints. I'm allowed to show the shots as its of commercially available models that are out now - I'd like to show his full-size sculp, but don't have photos and wouldn't be allowed to anyway! It probably features in the 'Art of' book that will release with the film. The droid is operated by an actor on stilts in the film, which can't have been an easy job. Anyway, just showing-off a bit - comment on the pics if you want to.

Nothing wrong with being proud of ones kids Dave. And nice treatment on the snaps my friend. No 2 son sounds like he has an interesting career.

Dave, you did a great job on these, #2 in particular - what fun you must have had with the set up and light, and what a fascinating career for your son. Thanks so much for sharing the story and pics. I still well remember the very special effects of that first Star Wars movie in 1977!

Yes, he's in the thick of it and enjoying it all. He grew up with the first Star Wars series - wanted to be a model maker long before leaving school and thirty years on created the look for an aged Chewbacca! He's also worked on some of the Harry Potter films, Guardians of the Galaxy, Prometheus - long list of stuff. Thanks for looking Billy.

Thanks Linda, they were taken rather hurriedly by the light of a table lamp. Those '70s films were the only kids films where I didn't nod off whilst watching!

Kids' films? LOL, even today I absolutely adore many of the Pixar movies that come out. They are often multi-layered with visual and verbal jokes that we adults can enjoy as much as they kids do. I've even found myself admiring the photography (lighting mainly) of some of those fake landscape scenes

Your treatment fits the subject very well magnetoman.....congratulations on both accounts. If I knew his name I wold look for him in the credits, is he a freelancer or does he work for Lucas Films? Don't feel obligated to answer...

I'm usually the last man in the cinema and the only one reading the credits Frank! Wait long enough and look for Luke Fisher - or add 'sculptor' and google him, you will find him on ArtStation.

Terrific lighting. Make sure your son give you the articulated model once available so you can share with us some more shots.
It's great to be the first kid in the block to get the new toys. 😀

Thanks for looking Edie. Hadn't thought of it as a poster, perhaps I'll try posterising!
