Hello fellow hogs,

I could use some of your help. I am a newer professional after spending decades as an "enthusiast." As Steve Jobs would say, I am finally "connecting all the dots." It has been joyful every step of the way.

I have a photography mentor who is going into a retirement mode and is giving some of his prized equipment to his best students. He has picked 4 of us to compete in getting our marketing plans together and one of the criteria is to build a fan base on our Facebook pages. I just started this endeavor and am woefully behind and need more LIKES on my page to compete for the best equipment. The more likes I get the better my chance to have first choice on the equipment list!

Won't you help? Here is how.

1) Visit my link below and look for the "counter" which is a number (around 200 now) next to a thumbs up underneath the header.

2) Click the number/thumbs-up. The page will refresh and the counter will go up by one!

Receive a virtual hug and a big Thank YOU from me!

God bless!
Kristine

Visited your Facebook page and clicked the clicker. I love the prom pictures..most original I've seen. Visited your SmugMug site too but it doesn't seem to ready...all I saw were black "photo spots"..no photos visible.

Thanks Elle, I did notify Smugmug there were problems. In the past all has been well. Hope you'll give it another try later. I think they may have just been slow to load!
Best,
Kristine

I did the "Like" thing.

Excellent work! Your mentor should give you EVERYTHING!

OK - you are NOT selling through SmugMug are you? We have had that discussion. I don't care what SmugMug tells you, selling work of this caliber online is a waste of time. An NEVER post images before the sales session.

Other members of UHH need to see your work to get the idea of how it is done. Great job!

Thank you so much Cliff! I do respect your opinion greatly and your kind words are music to my ears. ;-)

And no, I am not selling on Smugmug but I do use it as a quasi portfolio gallery for now. I also use it to post photos for a few out of town clients also but I give them a short window for ordering or the price goes up. For now it works as an interim measure. I bought a year's membership so until my website if finished (oh, what a long process) I am using it. I am also getting a new office space put together so I can better have clients in my home so I can better entertain the "sales" meeting without chaos.

I have much to learn, especially with indoor studio shots, but I am excited to tackle it all. John Rennie has also been a tremendous help and has given me lots of tough feedback which has helped develop a more critical eye. Feel free to give me pointers as I covet critique from talent such as you.

And yes, wouldn't it be nice to get the pick of the equipment? I am working on just that very thing! ;-)

Thanks again.

Thank you Nikonian! I appreciate the vote of confidence. I am a huge fan of your macro work and hope to learn more about it once I get more settled! ;-)

Because I don't have a Facebook page, alas, I can't help you. But from the rave reviews of respected Hogs, I'm sure you will do very well.

What I don't understand is what Facebook has to do with your skills as a photographer, but then........ there are some areas of more modern technology about which I have intentionally limited my knowledge base.

I do wish you well.

The Facebook Contest (for lack of a better name) is to help us understand the power of social media in a marketing plan. If it helps you to see the power, I have gotten all my work off of "marketing" via my friendship base which has turned into word of mouth business. It isn't my only marketing tool, but for now it is sustaining me while I am in the building a business phase. I have another mentor, now friend, who gets all of her business off of Facebook and she is making a decent living at it too.

How it works is, I post a photo (say, a photo from an engagement shoot) that I think will have interest, and my friends are able to see it and make comments. I post another (next day I might post a newborn shot or senior photo) and the "chatter" increases. Eventually someone comes to me and "needs" a senior photo, family shoot, or maybe they give my name to some one they know who may need a photographer. It has been an amazing tool.

The people I photograph love it as they can have one or two of their best shots on FB that they can share with their extended network. I "price" that service into my session fee and it is a huge hit. I only use low-rez files and have logo all on for branding. So far, it has worked well for me but it takes awhile to "build up" the base. I also learn that the more "likes" you have on your page tells the "customer" how wide your appeal is.

It is a slow growing phase, but it is working thus far! ;-)

Great work. Good luck in with the social media marketing contest.

Some of my friends who are professional photographers (senior and family photographers) say that they get more than 80% of their business from facebook, so it does work if you use it correctly.

I just looked at your portfolio on smugmug.

My only regret is that I can only 'like' your facebook page once. I'll get my wife to like it as well.
