Nikon 200-500 with 1.4x TC

Someone had asked about the combo of the 200-500 with the 1.4x TC I borrowed from NPS the version III and used it with the 200-500 on a D500 body This TC is on my want list now

Is there a reason why the photos appear to be slightly out-of-focus?

Actually the photos are sharp, but it seems like photo nr. 2 has the focus on the birds body, not the head.

Can you tripod a shot with the 200-500 without the 1.4 III and then crop the shot ... and then the same shot with the 1.4 III ... most exports agree the cropping is equal or better, and saves the extra $500 for the 1.4 III ...

Let me know what you find ...pls

well right now I cant since I had to send the TC lens back to Nikon only had it for 10 days

I wonder how these same photos would look if taken without the 1.4x but cropped instead?

using the TC gives me more pixels and distance to work at but I have also just used the 200-500 without a TC and cropped

Log is sharp but bird isn't.
