I haven't had to buy memory in 2 years. Started looking yesterday and was shocked at lack of selection and high prices. What are people doing about this problem. I was going to shoot RAW in France for two weeks and figurred I would need at least 128Gig for my 5d II. Any thoughts?
Thanks MT. I will look at it when I get home. But I was lookinhg for something local since I fly this afternoon.

Damn! I had one and returned it because of all the bad reviews about high failure rates. You have had no trouble? I exchanged it for a Sandisk Ultra 8GB 30MS/s. It is in a D200 so speed was never and issue, I went with Sandisk because of reputation. The Sandisk cost me more for less capacity. I need to stop reading these reviews. LOL
Every now and then, Adorama will offer deals on CF cards, I recently bought 2 SanDisk 16 GB 600X cards for $115. Either SanDisk or Lexar, I haven't had an issue with either.
Contact B&H Photo, they always have sales on Cards.

If you want the best results go with the best, SanDisk memory.
Almost all office supply places carry memory. I would check them out. As you are flying this afternoon, if you have to wait until you get there, they sell memory there too. Just depends on where you are going to be in the country but you should have no problems in the bigger cities finding memory.

There are CF to SD converters available (at least there were). I personally wouldn't invest more in the dying CF technology. Selection and prices are bound to get worse as stock diminishes to virtually nothing and demand decreases even further. With a converter, you could start buying SDHC cards that fit most of today's cameras. Remember that your camera likely has a maximum GB limit though (read your manual) and don't exceed it when you buy new cards.
If you're taking a laptop with you, you could dump your CF cards into it daily with a reader or a USB connection and use just what you already have.
There are portable hard drive - card reader combinations available that will store a lot of GBs so you can dump your current CF cards into it daily. Some even have rechargeable battery power.
You waited too long. Now you'll pay the price!
Somehow this strikes me as a very silly question.
I'll explain: I can afford to go to France but buying enough
photo memory is "shocking?" Duh? W.T.F. ?

Why do you think that CF cards are dying technology? I can't think of one full frame camera that doesn't use them. O.K., some do have an SD in a second slot, but I don't think that it's a "plot" to steer people away from CF cards. IMHO.
Just from a philosophical stand point it seems everything is a dying technology
to be replaced sooner or later with something ''better''.
