WhirlPool Aerocar Centennial Edition- Upriver at Niagara

When I saw the sign for the WhirlPool Aerocar I had to find out what it was. Turns out this thing has been ferrying tourists across the canyon at Niagara for 100 years this year! Shooting shaded canyons in mixed light has its pitfalls but it sure showed up that violent river color. Please share opinions, suggestions, and if you want, edits. Thanks.

Is the cab red? I'll bet that would be a real riot of color when it is in the middle - yellow next to red and both surrounded by blue.

Yes, the car is red, and I got some shots of it, but unfortunately the interesting play of dappled light was only an instant, and my shots of the car lack the light this one has. I'm still working on one of them that has some promise.

What a perfect vantage point you had, Minnie! It's a scarily fascinating contraption that mesmerizes me as my eye follows the lines across the water. The setting is lagniappe.

The only thing I'd like to see different is a lessening of details and contrast in the clouds. For me they compete with the subject and make the overall busy scene even busier.

Thanks Linda.

Of course you know me and busy... I should have created my own jigsaw puzzle company.

Compared to your usual posts min its a tourist type holiday snap via a smart phone. Looks like a lousy vantage point to make an interesting image from but I assume the operators of this contraption would allow you no closer. That's not a criticism there is nothing wrong with memory shots but it is what it is and no amount of edits etc is gonna change that. Actually I'm glad you posted it cos I was totally unaware this thing existed. Looks a scary old ride to me!!

Thanks for stopping by. It was a weird apparatus, and with only 2 available vantage points, both somewhat crippled but at least this one had a diagonal to work with. More holiday snappish than art for sure, but it was a challenge to dig this out of the original file, where the deep but irregular shadows of the canyon ate up all the colors and details. It was my first test run on the new Aurora HDR plugin which does yield a rather more realistic and manageable image than v2, and certainly more workable than Nik HDR does. The addition of Ramelli to their work team seems to have subdued the extremes that went along with Ratcliff Unbound.
