Spotted this fellow grabbing a bite by the side of the road on Sunday and just happened to be "armed" with my photo gear. He waited for me to turn around, pull over, and get the telephoto mounted! This photo is cropped just a little.

When it rains, it pours! I took the above photo on my way to the nearby Viera Wetlands. I can go months without seeing a cara-cara, but on Sunday as I was walking around the levy at the Wetlands (after taking the photo above) I spotted THREE cara-cara's up ahead sharing a turtle egg snack. Before I could get close enough to get a good photo, two of them took off. I got one photo as a dozen grackles showed up and ran off the remaining cara-cara.
Excellent shot Steve, I'm sure we have one of these birds at Martin mere wetlands trust, I must check it next time I go there.
Great capture, I've never seen one either..
Beautiful shot Steve. Very sharp and clear and it looks like he may have been making eye contact.

Magnificent bird. Great shot. Lucky you he posed.
#1 shows some of the unique features of these birds. The featherless face, the "trousers" look to their legs. These guys are among the best roadside carrion finders and eaters around and, at least where I am at, they are adept at flying away just before the cars turn them into road kill. Good picture!

Great capture, Steve--you must be a bird whisperer for it to wait so patiently while you got the shot set up!!

Excellent capture Steve. I think they are so funny when they walk!
