Wow - discover everything by yourself, that's a lot of things; good luck. That was just a small taste of my lip - I'm harmless. Please ask, add to the mix and be sure to post some of your photographs, it's always fun to see what catches the eyes of others. Can't say you wil ever get any information from me that is worth anything but I know there are others that are very helpful. I have added a recent one that I just finished working on from around 1910, just one type of picture I like.

Thanks! What I meant was im trying to learn and discover things by practice and reading posts and comments like this. Coz as much as ive been wanting to attend a class for photography, i cant coz of the nature of my work. Im a nurse and my schedule is hectic most of the time. So when im free, thats the time I practice, read articles, internet etc. No actual teacher in person :(

Guessing that was mostly where you were coming from - I just have a mostly bad habit of writting and speaking what pops into my brain. Seems that places often like to jerk their nurses around in regard to working hours - never understood that game. The internet amoung other outlets have relly opened up options as to learning though. Welcome & good luck.

For travel I would say the 18-200 will do you niclely. Having said that I have no idea how close or how far you will be from what you are shooting. For example the wide angle, longer zoom, a 2X extender, a tripod may be of use to you. Beiside what you may use, some also consider how much equipment they wish to carry with them. Equipment can get heavy and awkward.

My friend mentioned about the 2x extender, could i use that with ny 18-200? I thought its only for l lens. We are planning to go to grand canyon, hoover dam, yellowstone, golden gate, yosemite. The 7 day california bus tour.

That make an extender for either lens - get the correct one. The "L" series one is white as are that series of lens. The others are black as are the lenses. I would recommend you go with the camera brand.

I'm new here, too, but there seems to be a lot of good information here, and not as much domestic fighting as as I've seen on other sites!

If you are strapped for time, I'd like to suggest a free, online class for the basics on another site that I frequent.

Go to http://www.morguefile.com/docs/Classroom and click on the link for Jodie Coston's class. She isn't involved anymore so don't send her an email like it mentions in the first assignment; just post your assignment, or a link to it and introduce yourself in the forum.

Welcome. I look forward to seeing your photos. I'm a nurse too. Worked lots of 16 hour shifts but the worst was a 20 hour shift (nobody could get to the hospital due to a blizzard and I was one of the unfortunate ones who were already at the hospital). NEVER again!!
