I think it is absolutely lovely and I too love the reeds in the foreground.

I can't give any expert opinion but for my personal taste I like the reeds. They tell me I am standing on solid ground - not in the water. They add perspective. I can judge the size of the body of water. I know this is a serene and restful scene and maybe I shouldn't be thinking so much but it really isn't so much a thought process as it is a feeling of fitting into the scene that is instilled.
Thanks so much for expanding on your earlier comments, Carol, and for your continued interesting in the discussion!

I've always heard that raccoons were not a critter to cross

Thanks so much for your comments, Linda. I thought of you this morning when I drove out towards Wenas Lake. Light was lousy for pics, though the moon peeked through occasionally.

I hope you can get to the area I was at with great light sometime-I would love to see what you come up with!

aka going to my happy place

I tried to keep the effect subtle by using other edits and filters - going for a feeling of silent serenity half an hour after sunrise. I've already cropped a little from the right side, wondering if needs more? My "problem" is part of the appeal of this scene for me is the wide open space.

I would appreciate any comments regarding my own stated goals + your personal response. Thanks so much.

Linda, I think you achieved your goal of subtlety with the muted colors and soft focus. Excellent job of post processing. I would leave it as is.

I wouldn't change anything with this. It's well composed, there's a wonderful balance of warm and cool colors that add to atmospheric perspective, the leading lines of cloud patterns reflected in the water are effective, and I believe any other details add interest rather than being a distraction. The richness of the image makes me want to sit and study it for a long time. IMHO everything works.
